A suprinsingly entertaining and interesting account of computer startups • • • • • (bewertet mit 5 von 5 Punkten) Alle meine Rezensionen ansehen (REAL NAME) Rezension bezieht sich auf: Founders at Work: Stories of Startups' Early Days (Gebundene Ausgabe) This is a broad and detailed collection of interviews the author did with the (co)founders of the most popular computer/internet/software-startups. Most of the people you know already or at least heard their name. The book is divided into chapters, one for each person. Each chapter begins with a short outline about the person and the reason why he/she is in this book, i.e. the company he/she founded. After that the author poses short questions and the person being interviewed answers very freely and in depth. Each interview is about 15-20 pages and really covers a lot. What's refreshing about this book is that the questions are not simply a rigid list the author tries to get through, and the answers aren't simply shortened to the essence, but it is more like listening to a relaxed conversation. In summary, I can only recommend this book, as it is very entertaining and to some degree also helpful for people thinking about starting their own company. After reading through the interviews with very different personalities and types of companies you'll realize that there are some things which are the same every time (like the fact that almost of these startups have been done by people which were good friends before). However you should not expect a how-to-startup-your-company, for more often than not it was coincidence or sometimes sheer luck that the companies became what they are (while others doing almost the same have gone bankrupt).
